Tony Bolton and Tha Bolton
Tony Bolton (of British origin) and his wife Tha Bolton (Vietnamese) started making Oud in 2013 as a passion project. Using a custom-made copper still and following traditional gentle hydro-distillation techniques, within a few years, Tony and Tha’s Oud had become renowned and highly coveted as some of the very best small-batch and single-tree artisan-distilled Oud in the world. They also became famous for their homegrown Frangipani flower essential oil and consistently world-class Sandalwood essential oil productions.
Pierre Black
Canadian naturopath Pierre Black joined the team in 2019 to expand the product line and increase visibility for Tony’s already highly acclaimed niche products. With an extensive background as a natural healing practitioner and aromatherapist, Pierre has worked closely with Tony and Tha on-site in Vietnam, and also subsequently honed his distillation skills in Japan while living in a rural Zen temple through the pandemic years. Pierre now travels extensively, crafting new products and sourcing raw materials, spending most of his time between Vietnam, Japan, Thailand, and Cambodia, with new adventures always on the horizon.
Continuing the Legacy of Tony Bolton
In October 2022 we lost Tony to slowly deteriorating health. We now continue our work in the spirit, tradition, and wisdom of aromatic excellence that Tony passed on to us.
Tha Bolton has become a master distiller in her own right, working alongside Tony over many years. She continues to produce truly world-class Oud oils with Tony’s guiding presence, as well as Sandalwood, Frangipani, and other projects.
Pierre still frequently works directly with Tha on-site at Vietnam headquarters distilling and crafting together. Pierre now focuses primarily on traveling to source new essential oils and raw materials, meet other artisan distillers, and as well, the creation of his own all-natural small-batch perfume productions which have gained notoriety in the artisan perfumery community.
